UNGA: Defining the Role and Accountability of Multinational Technology Corporations in Democratic Processes Amid the Digital Age
The United Nations General Assembly is the main deliberative body of the United Nations, where every member state has the opportunity to discuss international issues and propose solutions. In BVS MUN 2026, the committee will focus on the role and accountability of multinational technology corporations in democratic processes. Delegates will debate how social media platforms, algorithms, political advertisements and the collection of personal data can influence elections and public opinion. However, they must also consider freedom of expression, national sovereignty and the different capacities countries have to regulate large technology companies. The goal of the committee is to find a balance between protecting democratic processes and preventing governments or corporations from gaining too much control over political speech.
